AutoMatch represents a comprehensive implemenatation of the probabilisticlinkage premise that each name and/or address record componentcontributes insight to evaluating a record linkage comparison. Automatchpresupposes that some component identifiers contribute more than othersand some have higher error rates than others. AutoMatch is ageneralized, mulit-disciplined record linkage software package that canlink enity records, postal code, census code and/or coordinate code.AutoMatch applies advanced probabilistic linkage methodology byrecognizing that each record component (ie., house number, direction,street name, street type, ect.) utilized as a linkage identifier can beindivdually evaluated with regard to reliability and/or probability ofaccidental agreement. Reliability is a measure of the error rate of theidentifier. If an identifier has a very high reliability, there islittle chance it would disagree in a correctly matched pair of records.If an identifier has a low reliability, then it will often be thatcorrectly matched records have different values for that identifier.The probabilty of accidental agreement permits determinination of thediscriminating power of an identifier. (For example in New York City, anaddress with the word Square has considerably greater discriminitoryvalue than an address with the word street). An important AutoMatchfeature is to manage frequency analysis of record identifier variables inorder to determine the individual discriminatory value of each variablepresent within a given file.AutoMatch's probabilistic methodology algorithm assigns a score (weight)to every record identifier evaluated; it then calculates an aggregatescore for the entire record. The aggregate score (weight) represents thestatistical probability (justification) of that record being correctlymatched and provides a measure of how good the match is for each recordset.
